Margaret Beazley
Margaret Joan Beazley AO (born 1951) is an Australian judge. She has been the President of the New South Wales Court of Appeal since 2013, and is the first woman to hold the office.
Education
Beazley graduated in law, with honours, from the University of Sydney in 1974.[1]
Career
Beazley was a Judicial Member of the Equal Opportunity Tribunal from 1984-88. She was an Acting District Court Judge from 1990-91. From 1991-92, Beazley served as Assistant Commissioner of the Independent Commission Against Corruption. She was a judge of the Federal Court of Australia from 1993–96, an additional Judge of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory from 1994–97, and a judge of the Industrial Relations Court of Australia from 1994-1996.[2]
Since 1996, she has been a Judge of Appeal of the NSW Court of Appeal.
Beazley has also served on the Australian Executive of Amnesty International (1980).
Honours
- In 2006, Beazley was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for service to the judiciary and the law.[1]
- In 2008, Beazley was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Laws (LLD) by the University of Sydney.[3]
