Marc Olden (1933 – 2003) was an American author of mystery and suspense. He is perhaps best remembered for creating the Black Samurai series, on which the 1977 film Black Samurai, starring Jim Kelly, was based.

Career

Marc Olden started his writing career with two works of non fiction — a biography of Angela Davis and a study of cocaine in 1970s New York — before turning to the genres of thriller and suspense. Under the pen name Robert Hawkes, Olden began writing the Narc series, which follows a policeman on a counterdrug task force.

Soon afterwards, Olden began publishing books in the Black Samurai series, making use of a lifelong interest in martial arts.[2] The series follows Robert Sand, a black American G.I. trained to fight by a Japanese samurai master.

In addition to writing another series featuring a reporter named Harker, Olden published dozens of standalone novels. His book, They've Killed Anna, third in the Harker series, was nominated for an Edgar Award in 1978.[3]
