Marc McNulty (born 14 September 1992) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a striker for Sheffield United. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, he played for the youth squads of a number of Scottish teams before being offered professional terms with Livingston aged sixteen. Having made over 100 appearances for Livingston he joined English side Sheffield United in the summer of 2014.

Career

Livingston

McNulty attended Portobello High School and played for the youth teams of Hutchison Vale, Celtic and Hibernian.[1] After being released by Hibernian at age sixteen it affected McNulty, with him believing he "wasn't going to make it in football" and "it was over".[2] He signed for Livingston aged 16,[1][3] before making a goalscoring debut at senior level on 31 October 2009 after coming on as a late substitute in a 3–0 away win over Montrose.[4] His prolific goal scoring record at under-19 level earned him a new three-year contract on 17 February 2010.[5] In all he made 9 appearance in his debut season in the first team.[6] The following season in the Second Division he made only 4 appearances in an injury troubled campaign.[7] Season 2011–12 saw him emerge as Livingston's top goal scorer back in the First Division, netting 16 goals in all competitions.[8] His form saw him attract the attention of clubs south of the border such as Sheffield United[9] and Derby County.[10] He extended his stay with Livingston on 25 July 2013 by signing a new two-year contract.[11]

Sheffield United

On 19 May 2014, McNulty joined Sheffield United on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee which would become effective on 1 July 2014.[12] The transfer fee is believed to be between £95,000[13] and £125,000.[14] McNulty scored his first competitive goal for the blades in a 2–1, Football League Cup first round win over Mansfield Town on 13 August 2014. In November 2014, McNulty was ruled out as injured after sustaining a facial injury after an "altercation" in a night club in Edinburgh with United manager Nigel Clough claiming that McNulty was the "innocent party".[15] On 16 December 2014, McNulty scored the only goal in a 1–0 home victory over Southampton to send United to the semi-finals of the League Cup.[16][17] After United beat Southampton in the League Cup, they also beat Queens Park Rangers in the third round of the FA Cup. Louis Reed a young promising midfielder slid the ball through two QPR defenders and McNulty ran on to the ball with a one on one with the goalkeeper, McNulty kept his cool and slotted the ball through the goalkeeper's legs, it was his ninth goal of the season in all competitions.[18]
