Maravarman Rajasimha I was an one of early Pandyan kings. He was the son and successor of Kochadaiyan Ranadhiran. He ruled over the Pandyan kingdom aggressively and gained territory by forging an alliance with Chitramaya against the Pallava king, Nandivarman Pallavamalla.[1]
Wars and Conquests
- Kongu Nadu
He defeated the ruler of Kongu Nadu and crossed the Cauvery to bring about the subjugation of Malakongam, which was situated between Trichy and Thanjavur districts. The Malava chieftain who suffered defeat gave up his daughter in marriage to Rajasimha.[1]
- Chalukya and Sripurusha
Rajasimha continued the onslaught into the Ganga kingdom of Sripurusha, beyond Pandikodumudi. Sripurusha sought the help of the Chalukya king Kirtivarman II. Both of them suffered defeats at the hands of this powerful invader from the south in 750. The Chalukya king then gave his daughter to Jatila Parantaka, the son of Rajasimha I.[1]
