Maple Grove Senior High (MGSH) is a public grades 1012 high school located in Maple Grove, Minnesota, at 9800 Fernbrook Lane North. It is one of three high schools in the Osseo School District (279). Its feeder schools are Maple Grove Junior High School and Osseo Junior High School. Starting in the 2015–16 school year, the school will serve students from grades 9–12. Previously 9th graders in the district attend junior high school.

History

Maple Grove Senior High opened in 1996 as the third public high school built by Osseo School District. MGSH is the only public high school located in Maple Grove, Minnesota, although the grounds of Osseo Senior High School are partially located within the boundaries of the City of Maple Grove. Starting with the 2015-2016 school year, MGSH will have 9th-12th graders in the building. The schools new name will be Maple Grove High School. [1]

Curriculum

Around 200 courses are available at Maple Grove Senior High. Types of courses include Advanced Placement, Honors, traditional, remedial, and special education courses. Through the Minnesota state Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program, students are eligible to take classes at state colleges and universities. PSEO participation counts towards graduation requirements. Maple grove implemented standard based grading in 2011. Maple Grove has been working on learning how to effectively implement standard based grading to help better prepare students for college in the last five years.[2]

Demographics

It primarily serves the city of Maple Grove, but students from other areas such as Osseo, Plymouth, Corcoran and Dayton also attend the high school. The racial makeup of the nearly 2000 students attending the school is 93% Caucasian, 3% Asian-American and 3% African-American, with the remaining 1% Hispanic or Native American.

Academic assessment

In 2005 the school was ranked by Newsweek at 85th out of 453 public high schools in Minnesota, and is the only high school in the Osseo Area School District to be ranked the top 100 high schools in Minnesota. In 2006, Maple Grove was ranked 43rd out of 444 high schools in Minnesota. The school also made the AYP for the 2005-2006 school year and for the 2006-2007 school year.

In 2006, 64% of sophomores passed the Basic Standards Testing (BST). Students also consistently score above average in reading and math tests when compared to other schools in the state.

Extracurricular activities

The school offers extracurricular activities such as National Honor Society, FIRST Robotics program, an student council, and Destination Imagination.

Athletics

The Maple Grove Crimson are members of the North Suburban Conference of the Minnesota State High School League. The school mascot is Leafy, a crimson and gold maple leaf.
