Manor Park is an area in the London Borough of Newham,.[1] It is situated east of Forest Gate. The area postcode is E12. Romford Road and High Street North are the main routes through Manor Park.
The main transport link is Manor Park railway station, which is on the planned Crossrail 1 route. There are currently Abellio Greater Anglia trains running to Liverpool Street station every ten minutes. Manor Park is in Travelcard Zone 3. The Great Eastern main line runs from Woodgrange Park station and is on the Barking to Gospel Oak line, which is part of London Overground.
Manor Park is a multi-cultural area with the largest proportion of immigrants originating from Asia and Eastern Europe. Recently there has been an influx of Londoners from other boroughs. They have been attracted to the area by the relatively affordable terraced houses, close proximity to Wanstead Flats, the development of Stratford as well as the promise of Crossrail in 2018.
Round the corner from Manor Park train station lies the Durham Road Conservation Area, which is a small late-Victorian suburb. It was designated a Conservation Area in 1984 to retain its original charm and character. Additional planning controls were introduced in 1998 to protect and enhance its special character. The area, popularly referred to as Manor Park Village, was originally developed in the 1880s on farmland that formed part of the Gurney estate. It was built by one builder to an overall plan, with a limited range of house styles giving the area a distinctive character and unity. The developers, the Corbett family, built several suburban estates including the adjacent Woodgrange Estate in Forest Gate.
Manor Park's Itchycoo Park (officially Little Ilford Park) was made famous in a song by the Small Faces, whose lead singer Steve Marriott lived in the area.[2] Manor Park also has an amateur football team called A.C. Manor Park playing in the AFL.
Manor Park was part of the County Borough of East Ham, Essex, until 1965, when Greater London was created.
The Earl of Essex is a Grade II listed public house at 616 Romford Road.[3]
