The Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences (GESS), founded in 2007, is part of the University of Mannheim and located in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It provides graduate training in empirical and quantitative methods as well as their application to business, economics, and the social sciences. Students educated at the GESS have taken up assistant professorships and post-doc positions at internationally leading academic institutions as well as positions in renowned international organizations and in the private sector.[1]
It is funded by the German Universities Excellence Initiative, an initiative by the German federal and state governments to promote top-level research in Germany.
Academics
The GESS integrates the disciplines of business administration, economics and the social sciences into a coherent curriculum. It comprises:
- The Center for Doctoral Studies in Business (CDSB), which offers Ph.D programs in Accounting & Taxation, Finance, Management, Marketing, and Operations & Information Systems
- The Center for Doctoral Studies in Economics (CDSE), which offers a Ph.D program in Economics
- The Center for Doctoral Studies in Social and Behavioral Sciences (CDSS), which offers Ph.D programs in Psychology, Political Science, and Sociology
