Provincial Trunk Highway 59 (PTH 59) is a provincial highway in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It runs from the U.S. border (where it meets with U.S. Highway 59) north to 8th Ave. in Victoria Beach on Lake Winnipeg.
The portion of Provincial Trunk Highway 59 within Winnipeg is also known as Route 20 or Lagimodiere Blvd. PTH 59 is a 4-lane at-grade expressway from Provincial Road 210 south of Île-des-Chênes, through Winnipeg, to the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation. When it enters the reserve, it becomes a two-lane highway. Then, a concurrency to PTH 12 begins, and ends near Grand Beach. From there, PTH 59 continues north, finally ending at Victoria Beach.
PTH 59 runs right through the east end of the City of Winnipeg, coinciding with City Route 20, and is the main route to get from Winnipeg to Grand Beach. It is one of only two provincial highways (the other being PTH 1 - the Trans-Canada Highway) to cross Winnipeg on both ends, and is also the only crosstown highway on one road. PTH 59 crosses the Red River Floodway south and north of the city.
Route twinning
Proposals exist to twin the route southward to PTH 52 to maintain the needs of those travelling to and from Steinbach, as well as south from St. Pierre and down to the U.S. border.
