Manachanallur is a Town Panchayat in Tiruchirappalli district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is well known for its numerous rice mills and for manufacturing ponni rice cultured on the shores of Kaveri river. It is the location of one of Tiruchirappali's best colleges, Chidambaram Pillai Women's College, a college founded by the well known R.M.S.T family of Omandur. It is the most important taluk in Tiruchirapalli District.
Demographics
As of 2011 India census,[1] Manachanallur had a population of 25,931. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Manachanallur has an average literacy rate of 78%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 69%. In Manachanallur, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age. There are 40 villages in this taluk.

Importance and news
Manachanallur became a new assembly constituency of Tamil Nadu since the last elections. The constituency's MLA Mr. T. P. Poonachi has also become a minister for Khadi and Village Industries in the current Tamil Nadu cabinet.[2]
Manachanallur Giridharan, a noted music director hails from this town.[3]
