Mallakottai ( Tamil: மல்லாகோட்டை ) is the name of a panchayat village in the Sivagangai district in the Tamil Nadu state in southern India. Mallakottai may not reflect any direct or exact meaning in the Tamil language, though in some parts of South India 'mallakottai' means peanuts. 'Mallakottai' is believed to be a short form of "Mayilrayan Kottai" which means approximately 'beautiful fort'. It is also possible that "Mallakottai" might have been the capital for the “Mayilrayan Kottai Nadu” an ancient territory.
