Mall of Asia Arena is an indoor arena within the SM Mall of Asia complex, in Pasay, Philippines. It has a seating capacity of 16,000[2] for sporting events, and a full house capacity of 20,000.[2] The Arena officially opened on June 16, 2012. It has retractable seats and a 2,000-capacity car park building.

The Mall of Asia Arena is the alternate venue of the Philippine Basketball Association when the Smart Araneta Coliseum is unavailable.[6][7] The Arena is also the new home of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.[8][9]

Entertainment events

Lady Gaga held the first concert at the arena with her 2 night sold-out concert for her Born This Way Ball tour in May 21–22, 2012.[10] Several other international artists have performed here too, such as Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Alicia Keys, Bruno Mars, Aerosmith, Paramore, BIGBANG, Jonas Brothers, Taylor Lautner, The Vamps, Zac Efron , Super Junior, Taylor Swift, 2NE1, and Bangtan Boys. Ariana Grande is scheduled to perform in the arena in her Honeymoon Tour in August 2015. Regine Velasquez is the first local artist to perform at the Arena.[11] Actor Daniel Padilla is scheduled to perform in the arena for his birthday concert called TRES Concert.

The Mall of Asia Arena serves as one of the playing venues of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines), UAAP and the Shakey's V-League.

The PBA's B-Meg Llamados and the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters played the first basketball game at the arena on July 7, 2012 as part of the 2012 PBA Governors Cup semifinals. The UAAP's 2012 opening game between the NU Bulldogs and UE Red Warriors on July 14, 2012 was the arena's first college basketball game. The first game of the 2012 UAAP basketball finals was played at the arena in front of 20,686 people.

The PBA's first doubleheader in the arena on October 17, 2012 was marked by a looting incident at the Meralco Bolts' locker room.[12] A day later, the arena hosted the National Collegiate Athletic Association's first game of its finals series against the San Beda Red Lions and the Letran Knights.

The La Salle Lady Spikers is the first team in any Philippine sports to celebrate the first ever championship in the arena on March 6, 2013 in front of 18,779 cheering crowd, when they won the UAAP women's volleyball championship.

The Mall of Asia Arena served as the main venue for the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship while the Ninoy Aquino Stadium was the second venue for the tournament, which was held on August 1–11, 2013.[13] It had a 19,989 attendance at the final game between the host Philippines and Iran.

The NBA played their first preseason game in Southeast Asia and in the Philippines at this arena on October 10, 2013 featuring the Houston Rockets versus the Indiana Pacers.[14]

The Manila Mavericks of the International Premier Tennis League played their home matches in the Arena in the League's inaugural season. The matches were played from November 28–30, 2014.

Religious events

The Mall of Asia Arena served as the main venue for the Encounter with the Families event, led by Pope Francis during his papal visit to the Philippines on January 16, 2015. The event was a dialogue between Pope Francis and an audience of families.[15][16]

On April 10, 2015, Hillsong No Other Name Tour Live In Manila Praise & Worship Concert was held at MOA Arena will more than 20,000 filipino worshipers who watched and were attended the christian concert event.

On April 26, 2015, Jehovah's Witnesses' Special Meeting in conjunction with the Philippines Branch visit of a Headquarter's Representative was held at MOA Arena.[17] It was attended by 14,194 delegates from select congregations in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
