Malaysia Para Games
Malaysia Para Games (Malay: Paralimpiad Malaysia) is a national sports meet in Malaysia, patterned after the Paralympic Games held at the venue where Sukma Games last held. Participating athletes of this games from all states of Malaysia, include Physically challenged athletes with mobility and visual disabilities, amputees or those with cerebral palsy which compete in these Games. It is a sporting event in Malaysia held once every two year. [1]This event is often viewed as a high end national level competition for disables and is usually referred to as the "Malaysian Paralympics". The first Games was held in 1982 in Kuala Lumpur. Participants of the event are picked from pool of possible strong disabled athletes for each respective state and are usually extremely proficient and skilled in their own respective disciplines.[2]
History
From 1982 to 1996, the games are known as Sukan Kebangsaan Bagi Orang Cacat Anggota Malaysia for the disabled. At that moment, only swimming and athletics available. It also invited ASEAN countries in 1990. In 1998 it is known as Sukan Paralimpiad Malaysia.
At that moment, events starts to grow with Goal Ball, Wheelchair tennis, Badminton as added main events.5 sports, Powerlifting, Archery, Boccia, Paralympic Association Football, Wheelchair Basketball are also introduced. Between 2000 and 2002, It invited ASEAN and Asian countries to participate. Sitting Volleyball, Judo, Fencing, Shooting and Equestrian are introduced. Sailing and wheelchair dance sport emerges as sport in 2004.
2004 onwards, the games are only to be known as Malaysia Para Games. Only starts 2010 onwards the games held at the venue of where the Sukma Games last held.
Theme song
The theme song of the Malaysia Para Games is "Antara Kita, Sesama Kita." which means - between us and within us.
Participating contingent
The Participating Contingent are mainly states and federal territories within Malaysia. Some Foreign Affiliates have been invited to certain Malaysia Para Games Edition. Eventually, as time passes all invitational teams have been ceased to participate in any Malaysia Para Games.
