Makerere University School of Public Health

Makerere University School of Public Health (MUSPH) is one of the schools that constitute the Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MUCHS). The schools are:

• Makerere University School of Biomedical Sciences (MUSBS)
• Makerere University School of Health Sciences (MUSHS)
• Makerere University School of Medicine (MUSM)
• Makerere University School of Public Health (MUSPH)

Location

The school is located on Mulago Hill, adjacent to Mulago Hospital Complex, and the other three schools within the Makerere University College of Health Sciences. The coordinates of the school are:00 20 16N, 32 34 38E (Latitude:0.3376; Longitude:32.5772).

History

The origins of the school date back to 1957 when the Department of Preventive Medicine was established at Makerere University Medical School. In 1975, the department was elevated to Makerere Institute of Public Health and moved to a new five-story building of its own. The Institute was elevated to a full-fledged School of Public Health and made a constituent school of the Makerere University College of Health Sciences in 2007.^[2]

Postgraduate Programmes

Makerere University School of Public Health mainly focuses on graduate training than undersgraduate. By August 2014, the school offers the following graduate programmes. ^[4]

• Master of Public Health, Distance Education A 3-year distance education masters programme tailor made for busy working health professionals who cannot afford full-time in class coursework
• Master of Public Health A Full-time 2 year Masters course
• Master of Health Services Research
• Master in Public Health Nutrition
• Master in Public Health Disaster Management
