Mahendran is an Indian film actor who works in Tamil language films. Beginning his career as a child artist, Mahendran made his breakthrough as a lead in Vizha (2013).[1] He also holds an entry in the 'India Book of Records' for "the most number of movies as child artist"; he has acted in more than 100 movies in over six languages, including Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam, as on April 2, 2013.[2]

Career

Mahendran appeared in several films as a child artiste, winning the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Child Artist and thr Nandi Award for Best Child Actor on two occasions each.[3][4] He also appeared on the Sun TV dance show Masthana Masthana as a participant in 2009.The actor went on to appear alongside Malavika Menon in Vizha, a film directed by Barathi Balakumaran.[5][6] The film is based on the award-winning short film Uthiri, and portrays the love story of Mahendran's character Sundaram, who plays the thappu instrument at death functions, and Rakkamma (Malavika), an oppari singer.[7] The film opened to positive reviews in December 2013, with critics praising Mahendran's lively portrayal.[8] His first Telugu film, First Love opposite Amitha Rao released on the same day, with a low key release.[9]

Mahendran's upcoming projects include Aakki, which is in its post-production stage, where he plays a hockey player.[10] He has also shot for vindhai directed by lawraa,a commercial entertainer .[11] shooting for his next film on full swing titled Viraivil Isai, directed by debutant Prabhakaran, The shooting of the film began at Kodambakkam this month. The female lead for the film is yet to be decided.The music of the film is composed by debutant M. S Ram and cinematography is by Shiva.[12]
