Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, also known as MGM Medical College, is an Indian medical college established at Jamshedpur in 1961. It is one of the three medical colleges in Jharkhand which are completely government run.
History
During its inception it was a private medical college in un-carved Bihar state. In 1977 this college was taken over by the Bihar government. Now it falls under the newly separated Jharkhand state since 15 November 2000.
Previously the college was affiliated to Ranchi University, Ranchi. Since the inception of regional Kolhan University, Chaibasa on 12 August 2009, the college has been under its affiliation.
Location
MGM Medical College is in India's steel city, Jamshedpur. When the college started, it was 6 kilometers away from the city centre, there was nothing except paddy fields nearby. Over a period of time, the city has expanded. The college's hospital is in Sakchi. The college is on the foot of Dimna Hills, in a locality named Dimna. The campus is huge. There is a big playground, suitable for cricket or football. The boys and girls hostels are on campus. Nearly 2 kilometres away is the breathtaking Dimna Lake. The road from the college to Dimna Lake is very scenic. It cuts through the hills with the Dimna Nala keeping it company.
