Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited is a public limited company promoted by the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra, India.[2] The company's remit is to develop the use and integration of Information Technology in teaching, learning and educational management processes in particular and socio-economic transformative processes in general.

The main mission of MKCL is to create new paradigms in education, governance, and empowerment of people at large in the context of emerging knowledge-based society and knowledge-based economy.

History

Since its establishment in 2001[3] it has focused on design, development and delivery of innovative eInfrastructure, eLearning, eGovernance, and eEmpowerment technologies, solutions and services to customers in Universities, Governments, and Communities.[4] Company has clocked 15% average increase in turnover year by year since inception. Its revenues for 2010-11 stood at INR262.00 crore (US$42 million). Mr. Vivek Sawant is founder member and managing director of MKCL.[5]

The Government of Maharashtra and ten public universities in the State of Maharashtra are among the initial equity holders of MKCL. The Government has nominated three Directors on the Board of Directors of MKCL. The Minister of State for Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra, is the Vice-Chairman. Among other members of the Board are two Vice-Chancellors of Universities and five eminent experts from various sectors of knowledge as the independent directors.

It has offices in India and in its subsidiaries RKCL & MKCL Arabia.The present MD(Managing Director) Of MKCL Is Mr. Vivek Sawant who primarily Looks Over operations. The called MS-CIT(Maharashtra State certificate In Information Technology) meant to crack the IT literacy code in rural and urban India. About 5000 Authorized Learning Centers registered in Maharashtra, and it has a sister branch in Rajasthan named Rajasthan Knowledge Corporation Limited.MKCl's Endeavor in the field of IT education is marked by More courses like MS-ACIT,Wave Courses affiliated to YCMOU,etc.

Maharashtra State-Certificate in Information technology (MS-CIT)

It is meant to crack the IT literacy code in rural and urban India. In order to bridge the digital divide, MKCL started Maharashtra State-Certificate in Information technology (MS-CIT) course in the state of Maharashtra. Since 2002, MS-CIT attempts to propagate IT Literacy and functionality among the common people and has emerged as a gateway to careers and global development opportunities to the common people. During the last thirteen years, more than 9.5 million+ learners have registered themselves for this course and have become smart users of IT. MKCL is having more than 5,200 MS-CIT centres [6]

World-class Academy for Vocational Excellence - WAVE

In addition to the IT Literacy course, MKCL, under its WAVE brand also offers employability skills development modules at about 4000 ALCs in the state.[7] Each WAVE track has several modules that cater to disciplines such as:

eGovernance

MKCL’s Secured eTendering System – MKCL’s SeTS[9] is a solution for eProcurement and eAuctioning and is being used by many Public Sector Undertakings and Co-operatives over the last decade for procurement of goods and services in a transparent and secure manner with significant reductions in procurement life-cycles and procurement costs. MKCL has also designed and partially developed a comprehensive framework for eGovernance of Maharashtra Legislative Secretariat (MLS).

Excellence and Talent Nurturance Program

MKCL has been implementing Maharashtra Olympiad Movement for the last seven years and has nurtured several talented school children from all over the state for their entry into international science, mathematics, astronomy, earth sciences and environment Olympiads.[10]

MKCL is one of the parent organisations for an youth activity group called as Nirman.[11]

MKCL has established and is establishing Joint Venture companies with the various State Governments by investing MKCL’s funds towards 30% of the initial equity. The Rajasthan Knowledge Corporation Limited (RKCL), the Odisha Knowledge Corporation Limited (OKCL) and the Haryana Knowledge Corporation Limited (HKCL) are such collaborative endeavours.[12][13]

Abroad

MKCL has also created joint ventures abroad through its subsidiary viz. MKCL International FZE, Sharjah, UAE. MKCL Arabia Ltd. (in Saudi Arabia along with its branch in Egypt) and MKCL Lanka Ltd. (in Sri Lanka) are the existing Joint Ventures.
