Oscar Vasquez[2] (born August 17, 1984) is a Mexican American professional wrestler better known by the ring name Magno. Magno is currently signed to WWE and has wrestled extensively on the North American independent circuit, including appearances for Ring of Honor (ROH), Chikara, and various National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) Affiiliates, as well as Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA).[3]
Professional wrestling career
Independent circuit (1999-present)
Vasquez is a Ciudad Juarez-based luchadore, who is often billed as a lucha libre representative in United States due to the fact that he is a dual citizen of both the United States and Mexico,[2] and thus does not have to deal with work visas or traveling across the border for shows.[1] Prior to 2006 Magno was not well known outside the El Paso/Juarez area until Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) brought him in as part of Team Mexico in the TNA 2006 World X-Cup Tournament. Team Mexico also included Puma, Incognito, and Shocker, the team captain. The team finished in 3rd place of the tournament with Team USA in 1st place and Team Canada in 2nd place whlle Team Japan was in last place. After the World X-Cup, Magno continued went to wrestle in the independents in the United States and Mexico.[3] Magno was one of the featured wrestlers for the short lived Lucha Libre USA promotion that ran from 2010 to 2011. During his time with Lucha Libre USA Magno defeated RJ Brewer in a Luchas de Apuestas, or bet match, where RJ Brewer had all his hair shaved off as a result of the match.[4]
On 3 April 2009, Magno made his ROH debut Where he teamed with Jay Briscoe & Kevin Steen and they was defeated by Chris Hero, Eddie Edwards & Incognito at Supercard Of Honour 4.[5]
On February 15, 2015 Magno defeated Cassandro and Bobby Zavala in a three way match to win the NWA World Welterweight Championship.
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (2006, 2013)
Prior to 2006 Magno was not well known outside the El Paso/Juarez area until Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) brought him in as part of Team Mexico in the TNA 2006 World X-Cup Tournament. On the March 28, 2013 edition of Impact Wrestling Magno returned to TNA as it was announced that he would be competing in a TNA Gut Check match against Adam Pearce. On the April 4, 2013 edition of Impact Wrestling Magno lost to Adam Pearce due to Pearce holding the ring ropes in a "Gut Check" match. On the April 11th edition of Impact Wrestling, Magno was denied a contract to TNA Wrestling via the gut check votes.[6]
WWE (2015–present)
On April 13, 2015, WWE announced Vasquez as part of a new class of trainees at the WWE Performance Center.[2][7]
