Macrobert
The macrobert is a theatre and cinema complex, located on the main campus of The University of Stirling, Scotland. It was originally opened in 1971 as Scotland's first purpose built arts centre, the brainchild of the University's first Principal, Dr Tom Cottrell, who wanted appreciation of the arts to be literally at the heart of the University's cultural ethos. In October 2002 macrobert re-opened following a period of refurbishment. The Centre is open both to members of the University community and to members of the general public. The cinema largely concentrates on art-house, foreign-language, and second-run films.
It was designed by Appleton Architects and Buro Happold.
In 2008, macrobert gained independence from the University of Stirling and is now a company limited by guarantee.
