History
The building was originally housed a grain exchange and the offices of the Chamber of Commerce.[3] It was built as an investment property by U.S. Representative Alexander Mitchell, who then leased it to the Chamber of Commerce. During the 1980s, the building underwent extensive restorations. The Mackie Building is adjacent to the Mitchell Building, which was also built by Alexander Mitchell, designed by E. Townsend Mix and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
