M for Montreal
M for Montreal was launched in 2006 and found by Montreal's Sebastian Nasra (Vega Musique, Avalanche Productions) and U.K legendary concert programmer Martin Elbourne (The Great Escape, Glastonbury, Jersey Live, ex agent to the Smiths and New Order, found WOMAD with partner Peter Gabriel).
M for Montreal started as scouting service and a networking platform held annually in November in Montreal. It's now evolved into an international music event and festival. In November 2009, Nasra announced a three-year deal with local media giants, Astral Media.
M for Montreal's initiative is to invite and cater international music buyers, journalist, taste makers to experience Montreal's music, arts, nightlife and culture. M for Montreal also produce events at SXSW, The Great Escape, CMJ, Canadian Music Week and throughout the year in Montreal.
The event has been attended by NME, Les Inrockuptible, Windish Agency, Coachella, Glastonbury Festival, SXSW, CMJ, Brooklyn Vegan, XLR8, The Guardian, Paste Magazine, XL Recordings, Kill Rock Stars, The Agency Group, Ryko discs, 3C, CAA, CMW, Spiegel and many more.
The music programmer is Montreal and Sacramento nightlife/music personality Mikey B Rishwain. Acts booked at M for Montreal vary from Martha Wainwright, Melissa Auf der Maur, Sam Roberts Band, The Stills, Thunderheist, M83 (band), Of Monsters and Men, Bran Van 3000, Patrick Watson, The Besnard Lakes, Jon Lajoie, We Are Wolves, Duchess Says, Woodhands, Winter Gloves, Cœur de pirate, Pierre Lapointe, Karkwa, Beast, Arkells, Red Mass, Creature, The Lovely Feathers, Torngat, Colin Munroe and more.
