MSN Murthy (Mutnuri Srinivasa Narasimha Murthy – मुट्नूरि श्रीनिवास नरसिम्ह मूर्ति in Devanagari) is a carnatic music violinist.

Early life and background

Born into a musical family with roots going back to two generations of classical music, with parents Smt. M. Jalajakshi (nee Challa of Vijayawada) and Sri Mutnuri V Subbarayudu, MSN Murthy had a good exposure to music from an early age. His mother is herself an accomplished South Indian Classical musician and taught music in Andhra University. The Challa family of Vijayawada was a generous patron of music and was honoured in that city. The family hosted several veteran musicians – both well known and not so well known.

Performing career

M. S. N. Murthy has been known to be a child prodigy and started performing at an early age of 10. He was exempted from age criteria and selected as a casual artiste by All India Radio when he was 14.[3]

Personal life

Mutnuri Srinivasa Narasimha Murthy an Engineer with a degree in Electronics & Communications and a Diploma in Music is a musician by choice. Served All India Radio as Staff artist for 20 years and opted for voluntary retirement[4]He is graded Top Grade for Violin, and A grade in viola and vocal – is married to Dr. Pantula Rama an eminent Carnatic Musician.[5]
