MICTA
Marathi International Film and Theatre Awards (MIFTA) is the joint endeavour of famed film director and renowned actor Mahesh Manjarekar, owner of Ashwami Films, and Abhijeet Patil, Chairman of Raja Rani Travels. The official website of the awards was launched by Salman Khan.[1]
About MIFTA
The Indian state of Maharashtra completed 50 years in 2010 and the world was looking to this state as the industrial leader in India. With this backdrop, it is only deserving to honour the leading lights of the Marathi screen and stage in a unique way on a global platform. Due recognition will be awarded to the distinguished contributors in Marathi film and theatre, as well as their landmark works. As this is a glowing tribute for their praiseworthy efforts in spreading Marathi culture across the globe, it is only befitting to host the ceremony on an international scale. Till date the awards were held in Dubai in 2010, London in 2011, Singapore in 2012 and Macau in 2013.
They are modeling MIFTA not only to hold annual awards, but also to contribute positively to the industry’s growth. Some of the endeavours will be:
- Marathi film premiers abroad
MIFTA plans to provide a single point contact to assist producers who want to shoot and screen Marathi films abroad. Twenty-two cities from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, Israel, and Southeast Asia have already been approached.
- Introduction to International Tourism Boards
Having sponsored Sindhutai Sakpal shoot in San Francisco, they are certain there are more producers who desire small shoots abroad. Periodic interactions with International Tourism Boards and specific sessions at TTF (India’s largest Tourism Fair) will introduce International Tourism Boards to Marathi films and film producers.
- Promoting MIFTA among youth and electronic voting procedure
MIFTA will ensure complete transparency in the selection process of the awards by e-base voting. By putting it up on the MIFTA's Facebook official page and with categorical promotion therein, they will ensure that Marathi films are promoted to youth not only in Maharashtra, but abroad too.
