MGM Park is a minor league baseball park in Biloxi, Mississippi, that is currently under construction. It is to be new home of a Double-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers., the Biloxi Shuckers.[6] in the Southern League. The ballpark is tentatively scheduled to open in May 2015. The ballpark is projected to have 5,000 fixed seats with room for an additional 800 to 1,000 fans in berm seating.[7]

The Shuckers were originally founded in 1978 as the Nashville Sounds. The team relocated to Alabama and played as the Huntsville Stars from 1985 through 2014.

History

Ground for the ballpark was broken on January 23, 2014, before the Biloxi City Council approved the project.[2]

On May 9, 2014, the Biloxi City Council voted unanimously Friday, without public discussion, to cancel its project management contract with Yates Construction.[8] Because of this, the expected completion date of the ballpark was pushed from April 2015 to May 17, 2015.[9] The city originally decided to "separately bid each phase" of construction "rather than drafting specifications for the entire project", but the council instead would “bid the entire project”.[8] Yates Construction was awarded the contract by a 5 to 2 vote by the Biloxi City Council on July 22, 2014.[5]

Features

The stadium layout will be organized around the concourse level that will wrap around the field and include concessions, a lounge and a team store. The majority of the seating will be located below the concourse level with 12 suites situated above the concourse.[4]
