MGM Channel is a Canadian English language category B specialty channel owned by Hollywood Suite that broadcasts completely in high definition. The channel broadcasts films primarily from the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer library in addition to Canadian content. Films are broadcast in their entirety, uncut and commercial free, with the only commercial messages airing between films.[1]
History
On July 2, 2010, Jay Switzer (co-founder of Hollywood Suite), was granted approval by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to launch a specialty television channel called KISS, described as "a national, English‑language Category 2 specialty programming service devoted to romance, love and relationships."[2]
While set to be launched on November 14, 2011, after several short delays, the channel was launched on November 23, 2011 as MGM Channel exclusively in HD along with three other HD channels.[3]
