Daniel Pedreira Senna Pellegrine better known by his stage name MC Daleste (born in Penha, São Paulo, Brazil, 30 October 1992 - died Paulínia, 7 July 2013), was a funk ostentação singer, songwriter and rapper. He was fatally shot in the abdomen while performing during a free show in Campinas, São Paulo[1] before a crowd of four thousand people.[2] He died later the same day in Paulinia's City Hospital.[3][4][5] Police in Campinas claim to be continuing to investigate the shooting with approximately one hundred testimonials, videos, and photos received. A number of pictures taken from the stage have been deemed fundamental to the case by an investigator.[6][7]

The Brazilian rap scene has turned violent within the last couple of years with a number of MCs being killed including Felipe Boladão, MC Careca, MC Primo, and MC Duda Marapé, in addition to Daleste.[2][5] Rapper MC Neguinho Caxeta miraculously survived after being sprayed by bullets.[2] There are speculations that vigilante gangs, referred to in Brazil as "grupos de extermínio" or "milicia," are affiliated with police officers and are responsible for the murders of Brazilian MCs notorious for lyrics that are critical of police corruption.[2]

Career

MC Daleste began his career in 2009,[8][9] composing his first funk songs and had his first hit after releasing "Pedra da Exaltação'". Daleste had a girlfriend, "Érica". In his life he had very few girls, money and concerts contrary to the lyrics in his songs. Now he has some famous videos on YouTube.
