MBC Newsdesk
MBC Newsdesk is the main nightly newscast of the Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation, airing every night at 19:55 KST, making it the first news programme to start 5 minutes earlier than JTBC's JTBC News Room and SBS's SBS 8 News and an hour and 5 minutes earlier than KBS 1TV's KBS News 9.
History
The newscast first premiered on October 5, 1970 at the timeslot of 22:00 KST. It was initially named MBC 뉴우스 데스크 due to the orthography at the time.
It was renamed to MBC News Park in 1976 moving at the time to 21:00, then reverting back to MBC Newsdesk in 1980. It also got a new theme, using one part of FNN's news theme and one part of Isao Tomita's Jupiter.
In 1991, MBC Newsdesk got a new theme, composed by Lim Taek-Su.
On 5 November 2012, the newscast moved to 19:55 KST (20:00 not counting the starting ad break), and is now competing with SBS 8 News. Following the change to MBC's new headquarters on August 4, 2014, MBC Newsdesk changed radically, dropping the latest remix of Lim Taek-Su's composition.
