The M66 derby is a fixture between the teams Bury and Rochdale. The fixture was first contested on the 5th January 1946, and is considered a very fierce local rivalry.
The two teams are separated by from a short distance of 6.3 miles between the two Stadiums, Spotland, which is owned by Rochdale AFC and JD stadium, owned by Bury FC. The M66 derby is one of Greater Manchester's better known rivalries, involving a lot of violent and abusive behaviour in recent times.[1] The rivalry has grown greater as Rochdale are now in League One while Bury are in the league below after Rochdale's promotion in the 2013–14 Football season. The two sides last met on 7 March 2014, which was a 0–0 draw.
