Municipalities of Yucatán

The Municipality of Mérida is one of the 106 subdivisions of the State of Yucatán and is located in the center west of the state. Its municipal seat is the city of Mérida. In addition to the municipal seat the largest communities in the municipality include, Caucel, Cholul, Komchén, Chablekal and San José Tzal.[3]

The municipal government is headed by the municipal president of Mérida (or mayor of Mérida).

Geography and climate

The city of Mérida has an area of 858.41 km ², its land is virtually flat, without any areas of the elevation, like much of the Yucatan Peninsula has no surface water streams, but there are cenotes both underground and at the surface (collapsed caverns). The climate is semi-humid, with temperature range between a maximum of 40 °C and minimum 14 °C.
