History

Lyre was formed in January 2007 in order to make contemporary, independent feature films.

Debut feature The Inheritance[1] was completed in 2007 and, following a sold-out premiere at Cineworld Shaftesbury in London, screened at 11 film festivals, reaching festivals in Ireland and Canada. The film screened widely across the UK, in cinemas, art galleries, community centres, council chambers, pubs, clubs and schools.

In 2009 Lyre released The Inheritance[1] on DVD together with a 60 minute documentary showing how it's possible to make an award-winning film for £5,000. Self-distribution allowed the film to recover its budget, and DVDs have been sold across the world.

In late summer 2009, Lyre shot their second feature The Space Between - an Edinburgh love story and redemption tale. The film premiered at Edinburgh's Filmhouse in March 2011, and screened throughout the city in art galleries, observatories, theatres, cafes, record shops and universities. Subsequently, the film toured the UK, completing 57 screenings including a couple in Berlin. The London premiere was held at Genesis cinema in January 2012.

The Space Between was released by Lyre on DVD in December 2012.
