The Lynnwood Link Extension is a northern extension of the Northgate Link light rail line that will connect the Northgate to Lynnwood. The 8.5-mile (13.7 km) light rail extension includes stations in Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, and Shoreline along Interstate 5. Lynnwood Link Extension is scheduled to begin construction in 2018 and open for service in 2023. The project was funded by the Sound Transit 2 (ST2) package approved by voters in November 2008.[1]

Route and stations

As of December, 2012, Sound Transit is considering several potential routes for the Lynnwood Link Extension. The southern limit of the extension will be the Northgate Link station connecting southward to Northgate Link Extension to Seattle via the University District. Potential routes have several stations in Shoreline along I-5 and stations at Mountlake Terrace Transit Center and Lynnwood Transit Center; one potential route has a stop in Mountlake Terrace at 220th Street Southwest.[2][3] One routing option has the line running down the I-5 median to utilize the existing Mountlake Terrace Freeway Station there,[4] and continuing north in the median.
