Lynn Blythe Davis (born July 12, 1958) is an American singer/vocalist[1] who has toured and/or recorded with many artists such as George Duke, Marvin Gaye, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Toshinobu Kubota, Tracie Spencer, Mooney Suzuki, Mariah Carey, Marilyn Manson, Whitney Houston, Thomas Anders, Meat Loaf, and Yanni with whom she appears on the live concert album and video Yanni Live at the Acropolis as a vocalist for Aria. She also appears with Yanni on Yanni Live at Royal Albert Hall.

Early life

Davis was born in Heavenly Hills, California, to Tom Davis and Adeline Livingston Davis. Lynn was educated at Narbonne High School in Harbor City, Los Angeles, California. During this time, she began performing in school talent shows.

Career

After graduating from high school at age 17, she met and auditioned for George Duke and became a part of the George Duke Band. The following year, she toured with the group as a background singer along with Sheila E. and Josie James. Following the tour, she continued to contribute vocals for George Duke. In 1979, Davis released a single "I Want You for Myself", which peaked at number 23 on Billboard’s R&B Singles’ chart and Dance chart.

In the 1980s, Davis went on to contribute background vocals for La Toya Jackson, Sheree Brown, Greg Phillinganes, Billy Preston & Syreeta, and many more musicians. In 1983, she returned to the George Duke Band to tour with them in Japan. In 1987, she met the rising Japanese singer and long time friend Toshinobu Kubota. In 1988, she was featured on Kubota’s third album Such A Funky Thang!. The album features Davis on the title track as well "Gone Gone Gone" and "I Remember A Dream". She continued to work and later toured with him in 1990, after her contribution to his fourth studio album Bonga Wanga. Davis performed a live cover version "The Closer I Get to You" with Kubota on Japan's national live station.

In 1990, Davis teamed up the group 101 North consisting of Carl Carwell, Annette Jones, Everette Harp, and Angel Rogers, along with Josie James, Paul Jackson Jr., Carlos Rios, Doc Powell, Rayford Griffin, Ray Fuller, Vadim Zilbershilim, Mike Landau, George Duke, David Rapace, Gordon Jones, Greg Phillinganes, Darryll Smith, Robert Brookins, Freddie Washington, Byron Miller, Leon "Ndugu" Chancler, Paulhino DaCosta, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Alexandra Brown, Keith John, Marva King, Syreeta Wright. Together, they produced a project album entitled Forever Yours, which was released on 12 March 1991. In 1994, Davis toured with musician Yanni. During the concert, she performed "Aria" along with Darlene Koldenhoven, featured on the live concert film Yanni Live at the Acropolis.

In 2008, Davis reunited with George Duke to record "Dukey Treats" and "Mercy" for his album "Dukey Treats".
