Luxor is a game and series of tile-matching action puzzle video games, developed by MumboJumbo, with the initial release in 2005. The first sequel to this game was Luxor 2, which was released in 2006 and included new gameplay, levels and bonus. After that came Luxor 3, which featured 7 gameplay modes and improved graphics. It was followed by Luxor: Quest for the Afterlife.

Gameplay

A power-up is being earned.

Luxor’s gameplay is similar to the games Marble Lines, Puzz Loop, and Zuma, in that it challenges the user to eliminate colored magical spheres by causing three or more spheres of the same color to collide. Players do this primarily by shooting additional spheres from a falcon which they guide back and forth along the bottom of the screen. When spheres are eliminated, nearby spheres which now form a segment of three or more of the same color will also explode in a chain reaction.

During gameplay, the on-screen spheres continuously move forward, pushed themselves by additional small scarabs. If any sphere reaches the player's pyramid, he or she loses a life and is forced to restart the level. If the player succeeds in eliminating a certain number of spheres without this occurring, new spheres cease to arrive and the level can be completed by removing those which remain.

Multiple difficulty levels are available as well, with play at higher levels yielding higher scores.

Powerups

Power-ups are modeled from existing games, such as one which slows down the movement of the spheres, and one which temporarily causes the spheres to move backwards.

Reverse Powerup- Makes the string of spheres go in the opposite direction for a few seconds, that is, away from the pyramid.

Slow Powerup- Slows down the spheres.

Fireball Powerup- Lets the falcon receive a fireball, which, when shot, destroys a large amount of spheres

Lightning Bolt Powerup- Gives the falcon a lightning rod, which shoots a vertical bolt of lightning, destroying all spheres in its path.

Speed Shot Powerup- Makes a vertical guideline appear, rising out of the falcon, thus making aiming easier. Also speeds up the travelling time of the ball from the shooter.

Stop Powerup- Pauses the movement of the spheres for a few seconds, allowing you to shoot spheres without moving too much.

Wild Ball- A special ball which can represent any color ball, so it can be used with two (or more) balls of different or the same color to make a match.

Color Bomb- Destroys all spheres on the screen with the color of the powerup, e.g. a red Color Bomb destroys all red spheres.

Scorpion Powerup (Amun Rising,,, Luxor 2 and Luxor 3) - Sends a scorpion from the pyramid in the opposite direction of the string of spheres, destroying a few spheres in the front of the string.[2]

Shed Powerup (Luxor 8,,, Luxor 9 and Luxor 12) - Makes 5 random balls into a grey ball with a black house in the middle and that ball shows on the falcon.

Games Series

Luxor HD

Luxor HD is a remake of Luxor that has high definition, and Luxor 2's Graphics.

Trivia

After competitor Codeminion released their game StoneLoops! of Jurassica for iPhone, MumboJumbo sent a complaint to Apple with the request to remove the game from the Apple App Store. According to MumboJumbo the game has many similarities with the Luxor-series which could confuse customers. Apple accepted the complaint and the game was removed.[3]
