Lutron Electronics Company, Inc. is a privately held corporation that designs, manufactures, and sells lighting control systems and a variety of other related products. Its worldwide operations are headquartered in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania, in the Lehigh Valley region of the state.
History
In 1959, Lutron's founder and owner Joel Spira invented the world's first solid state dimmer,[2] which served as the basis of Lutron's early business. Since that time, Lutron has expanded its offerings to over 15,000 products. Today Lutron is one of the world's leading lighting control companies for both residential and commercial applications.[3]
Innovation
Lutron has expanded beyond its core business into natural lighting control, in the form of premium, low-noise motorized shades. Many of its stand-alone dimmers can be bought in home-improvement superstores like Home Depot. Lutron lighting products are also sold through dealers who purchase, install, and program Lutron systems for residential and commercial lighting automation.
Lutron also brought to market the first dimming ballast,[4] the first reliable wireless lighting control system,[5][6] and other innovations that have been widely adopted as lighting control standards.
