Luke McPharlin (born 1 December 1981) is an Australian rules football player for the Fremantle Football Club. McPharlin was educated at Christ Church Grammar School, graduating in 1999. McPharlin is both a key back and a key forward.
He now spends the majority of playing time in the back line, but has spent time at full-forward. He is also well known for his trademark "specky's" or high flying pack-marks.
McPharlin was recruited from East Fremantle in Western Australia to the Hawthorn Football Club after being taken at Pick 10 in the 1999 AFL Draft. He made his debut in 2000 and played 12 games in his first two seasons at Hawthorn before being traded to Fremantle.
He won the Mark of the Year in 2005 for his spectacular chestmark against the West Coast Eagles in Round Three.
Luke is also the lead guitarist and singer of a Bahá'í Youth Music outfit, "Calling, Waiting, Searching"[1][2] His musical skills lead him to win The Footy Show's musical contest Screamers.
Aside from McPharlin's AFL career, he is also currently studying pharmacy at Curtin University of Technology, Perth, and is married.
On 22 September 2008, McPharlin received a total of three Brownlow votes.
On 24 July 2011, it was announced that McPharlin would release his debut album at the end of the year in collaboration with local Perth act Stella's Kitchen.[3]
