Luis Jiménez (born March 26, 1970) is a radio host in New York City[1] known for his Spanish-language program The Luis Jimenez show Sin Censura currently airs on 93.1 Amor. The Luis Jimenez Show which started in NYC in La Kalle 105.9 FM. In October 2009 Univisión Radio (owners of WCAA 105.9) and the NY Times (owners of WQXR 96.3), swapped radio frequencies on a deal approved by all parties. Luís Jiménez and his team no longer work with Univison due to the company cutting production costs and firing the entire team. In February of 2015 he started his new show with 93.1 Amor
Early life
As a child growing up in Puerto Rico, Jimenez was fascinated with radio. When he was six, his father offered to take him to Disney World. Jimenez turned down the offer, and asked if he could visit a radio station instead. Jimenez took his first steps in broadcasting working as a part-timer in Puerto Rican radio.
In 1989 he moved to Orlando, Florida to work in a local radio station, where his friend had become a program director. But things didn't quite go his way and the young radio hopeful had to take work as a maintenance employee while keeping his position on the air. It was only a matter of time before his charisma, wit and talent won him the hearts of the Hispanic community of Orlando. In 1993 his friend George Mier, who had become Program Director at WSKQ, invited him to move to New York to host the station's morning show. So it was then, on August 9, 1993, that El Vacilón de la Mañana was born, and with it a new era for Luis Jimenez.
Early career
Jimenez was referred to La Mega's management as a suitable candidate for hosting a Spanish-language radio show in New York City and moved there in 1993. He started to host the show called El Vacilón de la Mañana, on WSKQ-FM La Mega 97.9 in NYC. The program's first airing occurred on August 9, 1993.
Since February 21, 2007, Luis Jimenez started producing his own show "The Luis Jimenez Show." "The Luis Jimenez Show" made it to NYC early in 2008 and it has gained a lot of fans and popularity since then, becoming #1 in the market in August.
In 2005, Jimenez parlayed his morning act to the big screen, releasing the feature film, El Vacilón: The Movie. The DVD version was released in January 2007.
For more than four years, he appeared small screen with two programs, Sábado 47 and WEPA!, which he also created and produced. In addition, Jimenez is currently the voice of HBO Latino and The History Channel en Español.
