Lucy Ann Johnson (born October 14, 1935) is a woman who was reported missing in May 1965, although she had not been seen since September 1961. She was found alive in July 2013.[2] In 2013, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police reopened the investigation into Johnson's disappearance, and her daughter from her original family was contacted by a daughter from Johnson's new family.[1][3]
Disappearance
She was last seen alive by a neighbour in September 1961. She was finally reported missing by her husband Marvin Johnson on May 14, 1965. Her husband was suspected of having murdered her and disposing of her body in their back garden. Marvin was interrogated and the garden was dug up but no evidence was found. The trail went cold and Marvin remarried and died in the 1990s.[4]
Rediscovery
Her daughter Linda Evans, placed a newspaper ad in June 2013 asking for evidence in her mother's disappearance. She received a reply from a woman named Rhonda[5] from Whitehorse, Yukon who claimed that the missing person was actually her mother. Johnson was eventually discovered alive and well, living with another family in the Yukon, having remarried.[4]
Reason
Johnson says the reason she disappeared was that her husband was abusive. She tried to bring the children with her, but he would not allow it.[6]
