Lucky Peiris
D.L. Luxhman "Lucky" Peiris is a Sri Lankan senior police officer. He is the current Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) - Crimes Range in the Sri Lanka Police.
Early life
He was born in Katugastota, Kandy, Sri Lanka to Shelton Peiris the Inspector of Police, Kandy and Renee Peiris née Wijesekara. Fourth youngest son of eight siblings, two of his brothers are also Police Officers; Earl Peiris a Chief Inspector whio died in 1987 and Asoka Peiris who retired as an Assistant Superintendent of Police.
Luxhman was educated at the prestigious Trinity College, Kandy and at St. Sylvester's College.
Police career
He joined the Police Department at an early age of 17 to play rugby and boxed for the police team in 1968. He soon join the regular ranks of police in 1971 as a Sub Inspector. First stationed at Agarapathana police substation in the hill county tea plantations.
During his career he has been stationed at all provinces Island wide. During the late 80's, he served as Operations Liaison between the Sri Lanka Police and Indian Peace Keeping Force. He was then promoted the rank of Assistant Superintendent (ASP) in 1990. He worked on peace initiatives during the Sri Lankan Civil War.
Before taking up the post of DIG - Crimes Range, responsible for crime control in all parts of the island, he was Director of Traffic (DIG - Traffic) for eight years. During which he improved the traffic policing and traffic systems in the county. He has chaired parliamentary committees effecting legislative changes to Sri Lanka's Traffic Safety.
