Luís Gustavo de Carvalho Soares (born 3 September 1968 in Rio de Janeiro), commonly known as Luis Gustavo, is a former Brazilian footballer who played as a midfielder.
Career
Luiz Gustavo is a youth product of Botafogo, where he arrived at age 15, and started playing professional at 18. He then moved to Maritimo in Portugal where he would stay 6 seasons, playing nearly 150 league matches, scoring half a dozen times.
He then played briefly for Benfica, staying only till the winter transfer season, moving to Cruzeiro, and taking part of the squad than won the 1997 Copa Libertadores.[1][2]
