Luís Carlos Almada Soares, commonly known as Platini (born 16 April 1986), is a Cape Verdean footballer who plays for Bulgarian club PFC CSKA Sofia as a winger.

He spent most of his professional career in Portugal, and chose his name in honour of French international Michel Platini.

Club career

Born in Praia, Platini started playing football with local Sporting Clube da Praia. In 2008 he moved to Portugal, signing for Associação Académica de Coimbra.

Platini never appeared officially for the Students, who loaned him to two third division clubs in consecutive seasons, G.D. Tourizense and Sertanense FC. In 2010 he signed a three-year contract with C.D. Santa Clara, in the second level.[1]

Platini appeared in 19 games for the Azores club in his first year, eleven as a substitute. One of his two goals came on 31 October 2010 in a 2–0 home win against C.F. Os Belenenses.[2]

On 22 June 2013 Platini moved to Cyprus, joining AC Omonia.[3]

International career

Platini made his debut for Cape Verde in 2012. He scored the Blue Sharks' first goal in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations – also a first-ever in the tournament – opening the scoring in the 1–1 draw against Morocco in Durban.[4]
