Lower Town is the westernmost settlement on the island of St Martin's, Isles of Scilly.[1] The town hosted the only hotel on the island, St Martin's On The Isle, which closed in 2013, as well as the only pub The Seven Stones. The landlord, His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, gave permission for the hotel to be built in 1987, and the business opened in May 1989 and operated for nearly 25 years before closing in 2013.

In June 2014, an agent was appointed to market the hotel with planning permission approved for the construction of four new 2-bedroom apartments within the grounds. In addition, consent has been granted for the conversion of the existing hotel to provide six 2-bedroom apartments, five 3-bedroom apartments and four 4-bedroom apartments providing a total of 19 apartments. The existing planning assumes the loss of the first floor restaurant together with the staff accommodation block. The Brasserie will remain within this scheme, with some improvement. [2]
