Lovewell Reservoir
Lovewell Reservoir is a man-made lake in Jewell County in the state of Kansas near the town of Wayne. It has a surface area of 2,986 acres and a maximum depth of 35 feet. The waters are enjoyed for recreational purposes.[1]
The reservoir was created by impounding the waters of White Rock Creek with Lovewell Dam, an earthen dam 8500 feet long and 81 feet above streambed. The dam was a project of the United States Bureau of Reclamation, completed in 1957. The reservoir has a total capacity of over 92,000 acre-feet.[2]
The lake is named for early county settler Thomas Lovewell.[3]
