Lovelyz (Hangul: λŸ¬λΈ”λ¦¬μ¦ˆ) is a South Korean girl group, formed in 2014 by Woollim Entertainment. The group consists of Baby Soul, Jiae, Jisoo, Mijoo, Kei, Jin, Sujeong and Yein. Their debut album, Girls' Invasion, was released on November 17, 2014.

History

Pre-debut

Before the establishment of the group, most of the members had some experience in the entertainment industry.

Baby Soul made her first appearance in 2011 by featuring in Infinite H's song "Crying" from Infinite's album, Over The Top. In November 2011, she made her debut as a female solo artist and released her debut single "No Better than Strangers" featuring Wheesung.[1][2] In January 2012, Baby Soul made her first live appearance in Infinite's Second Invasion Concert. She performed "Crying" together with Infinite H. Shortly after, Baby Soul and Woollim trainee Yoo Jia released a single "She's A Flirt" featuring Dong Woo from Infinite.[1] In July 2012, she performed with Sung Kyu and Dong Woo from Infinite on Immortal Songs 2 with the song "Woman On The Beach".[1] In 2013, Baby Soul featured in Infinite H's song called "Fly High".

In 2010, Jiae made an appearance in Infinite's pre-debut reality show Infinite! You're My Oppa. After the two months of filming with Infinite, Jiae auditioned and entered Woollim Entertainment as a trainee. She made her official debut in 2013 with a digital single "Delight" featuring B1A4's Baro in the music video.[1]

Jin made her first appearance in November 2013 with a song called "Gone" featuring EXO's Xiumin and actress Kim Yoo-jung in the music video. Jin made her first live appearance in the 2014 Infinite Concert: That Summer 2. She performed a song called "Life Goes On" with Infinite H.

On 27 December 2013, Baby Soul, Jiae, Jisoo, Mijoo, Kei, Jin and Sujeong made an appearance at the KBS Gayo Daejun 2013. They were the female dancers of Infinite's "Man in Love" performance.

Mijoo made her first appearance in May 2014. She was featured as the female lead actress in Infinite's "Last Romeo" music video.

Debut, Girls' Invasion, and Hi~

On November 3, 2014, Woollim Entertainment announced Lovelyz's debut through a teaser image.[3]

On November 10, Lovelyz pre-released the song "Good Night Like Yesterday". Their debut showcase was on November 12 at the K-ART Hall in Olympic Park,[4] and their debut stage was the next day on M! Countdown. Lovelyz's debut album, Girls' Invasion, and a music video for the lead single, "Candy Jelly Love", were released on November 17.[5]

The group's album was re-released on March 3 with a new title track, "Hi~". The music video for "μ•ˆλ…•(Hi~)" was released on the Woollim Entertainment YouTube channel on March 2nd 2015. [6]

Controversy

Soon after the announcement of the group's debut on November 3, 2014, member Jisoo became the target of malicious online rumors accusing her of abusing her former partners and releasing an ex-lover's nude photos without consent.[5][7] As a result, she was withdrawn from the group's activities and was admitted to the hospital to receive medical treatment for mental shock.[7][8] Jisoo and her agency later submitted evidence at the Seoul Mapo Police Station.[8] On November 20, Jisoo was released from the hospital and went to live with her parents.[9] The police later identified the person who spread the rumors, and the person was sent to the prosecution on January 20, 2015.[10]

On February 11, 2015, Woollim Entertainment announced that Seo Ji-soo would not take part in Lovelyz's upcoming promotions, as the police are still investigating her case.[11]
