History
Lovejoy Manor was built by Allen P. Lovejoy, a prominent businessman who became a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, the Wisconsin State Senate, and Mayor of Janesville.[2] After his death in 1904, his wife resided in the house until she died in 1953. Later, the building housed the local affiliate of the YWCA.
The Merrill-Nowlan House was home to another Janesville mayor, who died in 1908.[3]
