Louisiana Highway 981 (LA 981) is a state highway in Louisiana that serves Pointe Coupee Parish. It spans 8.2 miles (13.2 km) in a south to north direction. It is known locally as River Road, Cajun II Road, and Ferry Road.
Route description
From the south, LA 981 begins at an intersection with LA 415 east of New Roads. It heads north along the west bank of the Mississippi River. After turning westward, the highway comes to the access road of the former New Roads – St. Francisville Ferry (formerly LA 10). LA 981 continues westward along the river and ends at LA 420.
It is an undivided, two-lane highway for its entire length.
LA 981 formerly had its northern terminus at LA 10, but when the New Roads – St. Francisville Ferry closed in 2011 due to the opening of the John James Audubon Bridge, the portion of LA 10 between LA 981 and what was then LA 420's southern terminus was redesignated LA 981.
