Louisiana Highway 426 (LA 426) is a state highway in Louisiana that serves East Baton Rouge Parish. It spans 7.41 miles (11.93 km) in a west to east direction. It is known locally as Old Hammond Highway.

Route description

From the west, LA 426 begins at an intersection with LA 73 (Jefferson Highway) in Baton Rouge. It heads east and intersects LA 1068 (Drusilla Lane) before meeting US 61 (Airline Highway). LA 426 continues eastward and intersects LA 3245) (O'Neal Lane/O'Neal Lane Extension) before coming to an end at US 190 (Florida Boulevard) just west of the Amite River.

LA 426 is an undivided, four-lane highway from LA 73 (Jefferson Highway) to US 61 (Airline Highway). It then widens to an undivided, five-lane highway stretching to Boulevard de Province, where it reverts to the original two-lane configuration. It maintains this {except for two brief portions near Millerville Road and LA 3245 (O'Neal Lane/O'Neal Lane Extension)} until its terminus at US 190 (Florida Boulevard).

History

LA 426 served as the original route for US 190 until the extension of Florida Boulevard to the Amite River. The route roughly follows the original routing of Benton's Ferry Road, which started at Jefferson Highway (Hope Villa Road) and traversed to the Benton's Ferry crossing on the Amite River near the present-day Amite River bridges. Before the 1955 Louisiana Highway renumbering, LA 426 was known as State Route 7, and later as State Route 7-D.

Major junctions

The entire highway is in Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish.
