Louisiana Highway 3278 (LA 3278) is a state highway in Louisiana. It spans 2.40 miles (3.86 km) and runs from south to north in the piney hills of northern Louisiana. From the south beginning at an intersection with LA 1, Highway 3278 heads in a northerly direction, wandering through the hills and Kisatchie National Forest en route to LA 490 near Galbraith. It is entirely a two laned road from LA 1 to LA 490, with a posted speed limit of 55 MPH. Created in 1955, the highway is a "road to nowhere," going from two unincorporated areas, with LA 1 having only local traffic mostly, and LA 490 ending at a dead end.
Route description
From the south, LA 3278 begins at a T-intersection with LA 1, which connects the area with Alexandria to the south and Natchitoches to the north. It heads due north through the hills of southern Natchitoches Parish, ending at a T-intersection with LA 490 near the small community of Gailbraith. Serving local traffic only, the road can be used as a connector between LA 1's northbound traffic and the Red River Lock and Dam complex near Colfax.
