London Buses route 340 is a Transport for London contracted bus route in London, England. Running between Harrow and Edgware bus stations, it is operated by Arriva The Shires.

History

Route 340 commenced operating on 14 November 1987 between Harrow and Edgware bus stations, as part of the Harrow Buses scheme, taking over the withdrawn section previously operated by route 140 between Harrow Weald garage and Edgware bus station, running between Edgware and Harrow-on-the Hill with a weekday peak extension to South Harrow station. The route was run from Harrow Weald garage by Harrow Buses using MCW Metrobuses.

Upon being re-tendered, on 19 January 1991 the route passed to Luton & District's Garston garage using Leyland Olympians. Route 340 was included in the 1994 sale of Luton & District to British Bus which was in turn sold to the Cowie Group in August 1996 and rebranded as Arriva The Shires.[1]

On 3 July 1993, the route was withdrawn between Harrow bus station and South Harrow station.

Upon being re-tendered, route 340 was retained by Arriva The Shires with a new contract commencing on 4 September 2004 with low floor Alexander ALX400 bodied DAF DB250s introduced.[2] The route was retained by Arriva The Shires when re-tendered, with a new contract commencing on 5 September 2009.[3]
