Loma Linda Academy (LLA) is a Seventh-day Adventist K-12 college preparatory WASC-accredited school[4] in Loma Linda, California, United States. Loma Linda Academy is the largest Seventh-day Adventist K-12 school in the United States and is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist education system, the world's second largest Christian school system.[6][7][8][9] Loma Linda Academy comprises three separate, semi-autonomous schools: Loma Linda Elementary (LLE), an elementary school; Loma Linda Academy Junior High, a junior high school; and Loma Linda Academy, a high school with over a 1000 students.[10] Each school has its own principal. Students at Loma Linda Academy score an average of 1800 on the SAT and 27 on the ACT,[11] and 99% attend college.[12]

History

The school was founded June 13, 1906,[2] with six students, barely a year after Ellen White had encouraged the fledgling church to establish a church and sanitarium there.[13] It was previously named Loma Linda Union Academy.[14]

Elementary

Loma Linda Elementary includes kindergarten through sixth grade. The principal is John Chen.[15]

Junior high

Loma Linda Academy Junior High comprises seventh and eighth grades. The principal is Gordon Day.[16]

High school

Loma Linda Academy includes ninth through twelfth grades. The principal is Robert Skoretz.[17] The high school has an attendance of more than 450 students. The High School has an extremely high college bound rate, with 99% of its students enrolling in college after graduation.[18] Of those that attend college, 75% attend a four-year university, while the other 24% attend a two-year college.

Accreditation

Loma Linda Academy is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges[12] since 1962 WASC and with Accrediting Association of Seventh-day Adventist Schools, Colleges, and Universities accrediting organization.

Athletics

Athletics is an important part of the school program and Loma Linda Academy has 13 CIF varsity teams in flag football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, golf, baseball, softball, and badminton Loma Linda Academy’s varsity teams are supported in part by the Roadrunner Booster Club. Loma Linda Academy also has junior varsity teams in volleyball, basketball, soccer, baseball, badminton, flag football, volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer and basketball.[19]

Spiritual aspects

Loma Linda Academy has Adventist faculty who teach and mentor with a Christian world-view. All students take religion classes each year that they are enrolled. Loma Linda Academy has mid-week Bible studies and also week of spiritual emphasis programs for grade levels from kindergarten through high school. . Weekly, the entire student body gathers together in the auditorium for chapel programs. Outside the classrooms there is year-round spiritually oriented programming that relies on student involvement and it has local and international mission opportunities.[19]

Arts

Loma Linda Academy has over 300 student musicians with Concert bands, jazz ensembles & string groups, and 6 vocal ensembles who have over 60 performances combined per year.[19][20][21]

Campus and facilities

Loma Linda Academy has a 40-acre campus comprising 19 school buildings with a 600-person performance auditorium. It also has four modern computer labs, and a Junior High & High School Library with multiple computer workstations with extensive online resources, and an Elementary Library has a micro-amphitheater.[19][22]

Student organizations

There are more than 10 clubs and Student Campus Ministries active on campus at Loma Linda Academy. These include a Creative Writing club, Fashion club. Rock Climbing club and Youth-to-Youth club.[19][23]
