Hope Elizabeth Hanley Soberano (born January 4, 1998)<ref name="umerezremy2014>Betting on Liza Soberano</ref> better known as Liza Soberano, is a Filipino-American actress and model with dual Filipino and American citizenship. She is a member of ABS-CBN's Star Magic Circle 2013. She is best known for her role as Maria Agnes Calay in the current hit TV series, Forevermore.[3][4]
She was first known for her role as Angel in the 2013 romantic comedy film Must Be... Love, starring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla. She, then, played a pivotal role in the romantic comedy television series Got to Believe. Tagged as "The Leading Lady to Watch For",[5][6]
Soberano had her first leading role in the hit romantic comedy TV series Forevermore as Maria Agnes Calay and will star in an upcoming film based on the Wattpad book, The Bet, alongside her on-screen partner, Enrique Gil. With Forevermore's success,[7] Soberano is dubbed as the newest Primetime Princess. In 2015, Soberano's and Gil's pairing is tagged as the Breakthrough Love Team on Philippine Primetime Television.
Personal life
Hope Elizabeth Hanley Soberano was born at 10:36 PM on January 4, 1998, in Santa Clara, California to Filipino father, John Castillo Soberano, and American mother, Jacqulyn Elizabeth Hanley.[8] She was raised by her paternal grandparents who also lived in the US when her parents separated. In 2008 at the age of ten she moved to Manila, Philippines to live with her father and relatives. At age thirteen, a talent scout spotted her and she was introduced to talent manager Ogie Diaz.[9]
Career
Early Beginnings
At age 10, Soberano came to live with her Dad in Manila where she was offered jobs to model for print and TV ads. Since initially she could only speak limited Filipino, her manager, Ogie Diaz, encouraged her to become fluent in the language to be able to land good projects in TV and movies. It took her three years to master the language.[10]
In March 2013, Soberano was launched as one of the 12 new discoveries of Star Magic, alongside Julia Barretto, Janella Salvador, Jerome Ponce, Jane Oineza, Jon Lucas, Khalil Ramos, Julian Estrada, Michelle Vito, Ingrid dela Paz, Alex Diaz and fellow Forevermore cast member Kit Thompson.[11] At the time, Soberano had already appeared as the younger sister of Jake Cuenca in the defunct afternoon series Kung Ako'y Iiwan Mo.
Soberano played the role of Angel in Must Be... Love, Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo's launching movie. A year later in 2014, she joined the primetime series Got to Believe, once again as Padilla's other love interest.[12]
Soberano, in the movie She's the One, saw herself as Gillian, Enrique Gil's best friend who can only love him from a distance as he pours his affection on someone else.[12]
Breakthrough
Tagged as "The Leading Lady to Watch For", Soberano had her first leading role in the hit romantic comedy TV series Forevermore as Maria Agnes Calay alongside with her on screen partner Enrique Gil. With Forevermore's success,[7] Soberano is now dubbed as the newest Primetime Princess and has earned the admiration of people in the local industry.[13][14] In 2015, Soberano's and Gil's pairing is tagged as the Breakthrough Love Team on Primetime.
Soberano will star in an upcoming film based on the Wattpad book, The Bet, also with Enrique Gil.[15]
