Live at the Isle of Wight 1970 is a combo CD/DVD live album by Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen.[1] Released in October 2009, it is his nineteenth album. The album was recorded in 1970 at the Isle of Wight.[2]

Overview

Cohen performed at the third annual Isle of Wight Festival early morning August 31, 1970 in front of an estimated crowd of at least 600,000. After Jimi Hendrix' set, he faced a fiery and frenzied audience. Cohen quickly took control of the situation and calmed the crowd. Joan Baez, Kris Kristofferson, Judy Collins and others stood on the sidestage in awe as Cohen performed.

Award-winning documentary filmmaker Murray Lerner, whose footage of the 1970 festival did not begin to see release until 1995, was able to capture Cohen’s performance. Columbia Records staff A&R producer Teo Macero supervised Cohen’s live recording.
